A group of like minded Rodders and racers we set off across the Atlantic, bound for Bakersfield California and the Annual Reunion at the Famosa Raceway.
First stop was Las Vegas (impressed no not really) it was all a bit too sleazy for my liking, still we only stayed one night before heading off to the desert in search of Don Waldron's Rod West. Images from his place will be put up on the site shortly and since I know most of you are not interested in my ramblings, i'll stick a few images for you to be going on with!

Now this is what the event is all about Vinatge Cars impressively turned out and running Hard!

All steel Willys, hands up if you want one!

In the pits sharing the space with several Gassers
was this well detailed and wicked sounding 56 Chevy
Straight axles were the order of the day.

Steel 32 3 window anyone, this one could have been yours
but a word of warning you won't find the funds by diving your hand down the side of the sofa, as this little beauty was up for big bucks 68,000 to be precise.

Bradfords absolutely wicked Topolino based Altered.
This car ran deep into the Saturday night darkness, slewing across the track and even ended up on 2 wheels but did he lift, absolutely NOT!

Now this was surely the lowest car, never saw it run, but it is a fine example of pushing the envelope and had photographers around it all weekend, i waited 5 minutes to get a person free shot.

This Pick up was For sale in the Sawp Meet area
apparently it has been owned by one careful owner!

Road Rash at its best and yet it still is a fairly practical rod unlike some of the scary versions of this trend.

Echoes of Two Lane Blacktop and Graffitti wrapped up in one car and perhaps this is it.
Couldn't help but marvel at just how straight every panel was on this car.

Seen cruising all weekend long this 5 window had a perfect stance and just the right amount of Patina, another car I would gladly park in my garage.

Another Swap Meet item, anyone thinking of building an Altered, well thisone could have been yours for as little as $1800, note the parachute packs on the back any history?

Looks the business and sounded it to during the Cackelfest!

No its not silver this is the genuine article a bare metal 34, the sign in the rear window was not a For sale sign, but a warning requesting you not to touch the car otherwise you would get oil over your hands and more importantly for the owner this may introduce rust to his super straight Rod!

The recreated tribute Willys of Big John Mazmanian, which carried his ashes down the track one last time on Saturday.

Championship 55 now owned by an Ex pat, located in the desert just 6 miles from where he set up home, it has been lovingly restored but unfortunately he has decided not to run it in anger, in my opinion,it should be out doing what it was originally built for and out there pounding the strip.

Funny Sunday was excellent and the "LA Challenger" was a supreme example of the quality of the cars attending and running to the max! More funnies to follow

Steve Dennish (orange helmet) running the old "Hummer" note the bonnet side scoop, thats because its a straight six. Steve suffered a flywheel explosion at mid track which terminally ended his racing and required a swift change of underwear!

SLINGSHOT HEAVEN

All original steel and engine the $41 Willys yes thats not a misprint it cost the owner $41

Double the trouble or double the fun, whichever it ran well and looked and sounded wicked.

The Swap Meet area was surprisingly small, with only about 20 stalls, but unlike a similar sized swap meet here, every stall had desirable items on offer.
There were several wheel stalls and complete cars and various projects up for grabs. Prices were keen, they had to be as they were in dollars, but still commanfing top wack were a pair early spindle mount Halibrands, $1800 and sold within a couple of minutes of it opening.
Enjoy the images below, I hope to add some more over the next few days.

Now this got my heart racing and quite a few others, it was very complete, well engineered and a reasonable $14,800 or best offer. It was still For Sale on Sunday which really surprised me!

Just a few items with more being unloaded in the background.

Model A pick up cab, very sound and very cheap $1800

Mid engined Pick up was awesome, not sure about those webbing engine mounts!

Chevy Nova Gasser, work in progress but well on the way.

Grille was available for $30 any takers? In the UK that would have been snapped up for a garage wall hanging or possibly the ideal grille for a Rat Rod.

Willys pick up, all steel cab and bed, with fibreglass front end, small block Chevy and a runner yours for $15,000.

Slingshot was also up for grabs $6,800 "anyone got a tape measure, Just how long is my garage"?

Hang on a minute, by both and you almost have a ready made Nostalgia team!

Take your pick, both available, I did overhere one guy telling his mate that the Model A on the left was an ultra rare B400!

Spindle mounts for both front and rear on this stall.

"Have you got any Racing Mags Mate"?

Can't find a Plumber when you need one, well here's the reason why, he's been at the drags!

All original Ford Metalwork only missing front and rear wings yours for only $68,000 same vendor as the 3 window, same price!

These were For sale by the same guys selling the 34 above, so if any take your fancy, I hope you can read the numbers

Chopped 5 window looks to have a different rods hood and grille $2000

This 55 was driven from the rear seat, yes you did read that correctly, just how you pull out from a side junction with confidence was and still is beyond me.

The gorgeous Greer-Black -Prudhomme sling shot glowing in the California sunshine

Recently completed by the team at "Limeworks" this 32 is now looking for a new home.

"High and Mighty" just about says it all
