NERVOUS SURGEONS

UK HOT RODDERS & DRAG RACERS

The Ancient History

The Nervous Surgeons developed from an amalgamation of members of several defunct Street Rod and Drag Racing Clubs, Weekend Warrior Racing, Total Mayhem,  South Beds Cruisers, Sunny Valley Roadsters and DMC (Deffinately Monday Club).

The Club members are all Petrol Heads and own a diverse cross section of the automotive world. The Club even has a Junior section encouraging the "Rodders and Racers" of the future!

South Beds Cruisers were predominantly from Luton and the surrounding areas and this club ran for nearly 10 years during the early 70's. The club cruised twice a week and if you ran a chromed jack up kit you were the main attraction. However this was all set to change when the club cruised to Bedford on mass to go and watch a new release from the states called "American Graffitti"!  As they stumbled out of the cinema many of the cruisers didn't realise that they had just become the "Graffitti" generation and that they had just seen the future and it wasn't orange , it was yellow, well to be exact it was a cross between "piss yella and puke green".  It would be many years before some of them achieved the Graffitti dreams so deeply imbedded that night, but as they sped back to Luton in a collection of Cortina's, Cresta's, Escorts and Capris they knew the cars they were in were insignificant and for some of them they would never look at cars in the same way again!

Meanwhile in Aylesbury the "Sunny Valley Roadsters" were formed and they too set out on the long road to true quality rod owenership. Some of the club members had their own embroidered jackets but more importantly they were starting to build some very good rods, predominently the cars were based on the Ford Pop but they were turning out in various styles and colours. The club only lasted a few years but some of the cars still are doing rod duty today although now sporting many changes!

Total Mayhem was formed in 1986 and consisted of refugees from the South Beds Cruisers and Sunny Valley Roadsters and they formed the nucleous of a small but enthusiastic group of Drag Racers. At the time of its formation the team operated and raced a 1955 Chevy which went onto record a best time of 10.89, this being achieved on street tyres but with the assistance over an overkill amount of nitrous, which ultimately also lead to the demise of the 55's engine, followed quickly by the demise of the team!

Total Mayhem went onto become Weekend Warrior Racing and set about really challenging for National honours which they eventually achieved by winning the bench racing championships in 1999.

The Deffinately Monday Club began with some good humoured pee taking between the Brooke-Langham brothers, as whenever the younger brother was asked when was his car going to be out, his reply was always" Deffinately on Monday". DMC went from strength to strength and increased its membership to the heady heights of 5 during 1994. The idea behind this was "Quality" and not "Quantity", this now being reflected in the "Nervous Surgeons".

The Nerveous Surgeons was developed and formed in 2004 by 2 former members of  South Beds Cruisers and "Great mates" Nick Brooke-Langham (Nervous Nick)and Chris Allen (Slingshot). The "Great Mates" have been just that for nearly quarter of a century and have even run a business together American Automotive Fine Art. Their passion has always been centred around Street Rods and Drag Racing and generally having fun with cars. In seeking to set up a car based club they knew that they didnt want a Club based around rules and procedures but a totally relaxed environment for just enjoying modified cars. They also knew it had to be fun and wanted club members to be instantly recognisable. The idea of facial tatoos was however quickly dropped in favour of commissioning the extremely talented Hot Rod artist Paul Barrow to design the clubs logo.  This depicts their Drag Racing heritage and gives refernce to their operating skills!

Jimmy "Just Jim" Rutter long time friend of Nick and Chris soon joined the ranks of the club membership and recieved his club jacket in a secret garage ceremony during the summer of 2004. Just Jim like all the other club members has a steel car but this by fluke and not by design, membership is steadily growing to include, Dave Woodfield, Flat Top Mikey, Paranoid Paul, Bob, Mike Taylor, Nick & Merv Barnett, with membership based around like minded automotive nutters rather than what material your car is made from!  Club gatherings are confined to Rod Run or Drag Strip attendance with absolutely no membership fees, club apparel is purchased at cost and will be expanded over the coming year and will appear on this website soon.
